TENNIS LEGENDS JANA NOVOTNA AND RICHEY RENEBERG ALONG WITH ORIOLES

TO JOIN TENNIS CHALLENGE
Baltimore, November 14 – The area’s premier charitable sporting event has finalized the playing field for the Smith Barney Legends of Tennis Match. On tap for the Legends of Tennis Match will be Martina Navratilova and Richey Reneberg vs. Jana Novotna and Patrick McEnroe. Starring in the crowd-favored Orioles Challenge Match will be Brady Anderson and his recently named opponent, Gary Matthews Jr.
The 2002 Chevy Chase Bank Tennis Challenge presented by The Baltimore Sun will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at 7 PM, at the Baltimore Arena and also welcomes Grand Slam Champions Lindsay Davenport and Monica Seles facing-off in the Tennis Challenge’s Feature Match.
This year’s Tennis Challenge welcomes back 1998 Wimbledon champion, Jana Novotna in an all-star cast of tennis legends. The fast-paced action and festivities will kick off into high gear as former ATP Tour great, Richey Reneberg also returns to fight for top honors in an epic winner-take-all mixed doubles battle. Martina Navratilova, arguably one of the greatest tennis player of all times and current U.S. Davis Cup Team Captain and 1989 French Open doubles champion, Patrick McEnroe will also star in this year’s Smith Barney Legends of Tennis Match.
Adding to the evening’s excitement is Orioles outfielder, Gary Matthews, Jr. will challenge 7-time defending champion, Brady Anderson’s victory streak, when the two team with Davenport and Seles in an electrified, mixed doubles Orioles Challenge Match. Hometown sports heroes from the Baltimore NFL Ravens will coach Anderson and Matthews.
The Chevy Chase Bank Tennis Challenge presented by the Baltimore Sun is played to benefit the Baltimore Community Foundation, a publicly endowed non-profit organization that donates proceeds to area children’s charities. Since the Event’s inception in 1986, over $3 million has been distributed to child-related causes.
Tournament Founder, Pam Shriver was recently inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and in conjunction with this year’s Tennis Challenge; there will be a Hometown Hall of Fame Tribute on Monday, December 9, 2002 at Raven’s Stadium in honor of Pam’s achievement.
